Sick patterns, vibrant colors, what more can you ask for in a dope ass sneaker?

House of Holland is a brand after my own heart.

I’m really tripping off of their denim stuff. The bleaching of these pastels is perfection and the zipper detailing is so on point. I want. I need these pieces.

AN INTERVIEW WITH “TOMBOY STYLE” AUTHOR LIZZIE GARRETT

KIM JULIEN (me)

Started two years ago, the popular blog Tomboy Style (tomboystyle.blogspot.com) shines light on women’s sartorially boyish proclivities celebrating “tomboys” from a passerby on the street in a man’s button-down shirt to late Princess Diana wearing a tuxedo.  OOO caught up with the woman behind the site Lizzie Garrett, who just recently launched the book Tomboy Style: Beyond The Boundaries of Fashion, to talk inspiration, style, and sports cars.

OOO: How did the launch party in Chicago go, from the pictures it looked really fun?

LG: It went really well, it was just this past weekend. All the events thus far have been fun and it’s been so cool to meet people of the same sartorial ilk.

OOO: What made you decide to make the blog into a book?

LG: I started the blog in May 2010 as a way to flush out the idea of the intersection of tomboys and style. Shortly after I started the blog, I noticed there was a community out there that felt the same way that I did. The feedback was so strong and positive from the get-go, and that’s when I realized there was an audience for this book.

OOO: What does being a tomboy entail? Is there something more to it than just wearing boyish clothing?

LG: I define tomboy style as equal parts style and spirit. Although the tomboy may be initially identified by men’s clothing, what makes her wholly so is an inherent sense of confidence, rebelliousness and adventure.

OOOWhat would you advise a woman trying to get the tomboy look to buy? What designers/brands do you feel capture the tomboy essence?

LG: There’s really no formula to it; I think the key is really to be yourself (as clichéd and cheesy as that may sound). Tomboy style isn’t really something you can put on or else it might read a little phony. However, brands and labels I really love are: Rugby RL, J. Crew, Madewell, Hartford, Chance, The Row, Alexander Wang, Phillip Lim, Helmet Lang.

OOOWhat do you wear that makes you feel most like a tomboy?

LG: Probably my husband’s button downs.

OOOWhat initially drew you to the tomboy style and to create the blog?

LG: I grew up as a classic tomboy, playing on boy’s Little League teams, building forts, boogie boarding, all of the things boys did, I wanted to do, and did. Tomboy Style is essentially adding a layer of femininity, sophistication and maturity to the tomboy childhood.

OOODo you take style inspiration from other mediums, such as music, art, literature, etc?

LG: Yes, definitely: sports cars, classic cocktails, music, and art, all of it. It’s a rich world.

OOOWho are your style inspirations?

LG: Jane Birkin always and forever.
